Roydon - St Remigius

Our Churches

Roydon Church is unusual in its dedication to St Remigius. He was the Bishop of Rheims in France and in 496 he baptised King Clovis which led to the conversion of the Frankish people. It is also one of the Round Tower Churches.

The interior is welcoming with some interesting memorials and stained glass windows. The two manual pipe organ was built in 1938 by Roydon organbuilder Mr W A Boggis.

The new addition is the Parish Room built with legacies from Roydon residents Mrs Nellie Jones and Miss Irene Dutton. The ceiling of the parishroom is cedarwood which came from the cedar tree in the churchyard. This tree was diseased and had to be felled but the timber was kept and made into boards for the ceiling, frames from the noticeboards and the cross in the Parish Room.

The church is open daily during daylight hours, and the congregation is friendly and welcoming.
